Author Guidelines

Journal of Intelligent Systems and Applied Sciences (JISAS)

  1. Types of Manuscripts

The Journal of Intelligent Systems and Applied Sciences (JISAS) considers the following manuscript types:

  • Original Research Articles
  • Review Articles
  • Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses
  • Methodological and Technical Papers
  • Short Communications
  • Case Studies (with strong technical, algorithmic, or applied relevance)

All submissions must present original work that has not been previously published and is not under consideration for publication elsewhere.

  1. Manuscript Preparation

2.1 Language

  • Manuscripts must be written in clear, concise, and grammatically correct English.
  • Either British or American English may be used; however, consistency must be maintained throughout the manuscript.
  • Authors who are not fully proficient in English are encouraged to seek professional language editing prior to submission.

2.2 Manuscript Structure

Given the technical and applied nature of JISAS, manuscripts should generally follow a computing and engineering-oriented structure.

A typical manuscript should be organized as follows:

  1. Title
  2. Author Names and Affiliations
  3. Abstract (single paragraph; no displayed equations, numbered references, or footnotes)
  4. Index Terms (keywords/phrases in alphabetical order, separated by commas; IEEE Thesaurus is recommended)
  5. Introduction
  6. Related Work (where appropriate)
  7. Methodology / System Architecture / Proposed Approach
  8. Experiments / Implementation / Case Description
  9. Results and Performance Evaluation
  10. Discussion and Analysis
  11. Conclusion (optional) and/or Future Work
  12. Appendix (if applicable; placed before the Acknowledgment)
  13. Acknowledgment(s) (if applicable)
  14. Funding Statement
  15. Conflict of Interest Statement
  16. Data Availability Statement
  17. References

Review articles and certain manuscript types may adopt alternative structures where appropriate, subject to editorial approval.

2.3 Title Page

The title page should include:

  • A concise and informative title
  • Full names of all authors
  • Institutional affiliations
  • Corresponding author’s email address
(ORCIDs may be provided where available.)

2.4 Abstract and Index Terms

  • Abstract length: 150–250 words
  • The abstract should clearly describe:
    • Research problem and objective
    • Proposed method or approach
    • Key results or performance outcomes
    • Main conclusions or contributions
  • Provide 3–6 Index Terms that reflect the technical content of the manuscript, listed in alphabetical order and separated by commas.

  1. Formatting Requirements
  • Manuscripts should be prepared in Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx).
  • Do not adjust font sizes, line spacing, or character spacing to “fit” a target length.

ceccb97c-a223-4298-9b18-5fd1fcf…

  • Use a consistent font and standard margins; page numbers should be included.
  • Equations should be created using an equation editor; symbols should be defined before or immediately after first use.
  • Algorithms (if applicable) should be numbered and provided with a short title.

  1. Figures and Tables
  • Figures and tables must be numbered consecutively and cited in the text.
  • When referring to figures in text, use “Fig.” (including at the beginning of a sentence). Do not abbreviate “Table.”
  • Place figure captions below figures and table titles above tables.
  • Figures must be of sufficient resolution and quality; authors are responsible for obtaining permissions for copyrighted material.
  • Authors should ensure that axis labels use words rather than symbols and include units in parentheses where applicable.

  1. References (Mandatory: IEEE Style)

JISAS requires all manuscripts to follow the IEEE referencing style and the IEEE Editorial Style Manual conventions.

5.1 In-text citation

  • Cite references using Arabic numerals in square brackets in order of first appearance (e.g., [1], [2], [3]).
  • Citation numbers should appear inside the punctuation.
  • Do not use “Ref.” or “reference” except at the beginning of a sentence.

5.2 Reference list formatting

  • Each reference number must correspond to one reference only; do not combine multiple items under one number.
  • Author names must be formatted with given-name initials preceding the family name (e.g., J. K. Author).
  • Use “et al.” only when author names are not given or when there are more than six authors.
  • For journal articles, include (where available): abbreviated journal title, vol., no., pp., month (if available), year, and DOI.
  • For articles in early access, include “early access” and the DOI.
  • If a URL is included, place it at the end of the reference.
  • Other than books, capitalize only the first word of an article title, except for proper nouns and element symbols.

Manuscripts not conforming to IEEE reference style may be returned for revision prior to peer review.

  1. Ethical Considerations

6.1 Research Ethics

Research involving human participants, animals, or sensitive data must comply with relevant ethical standards and regulations. Authors should state:

  • Approval by an appropriate ethics committee (if applicable)
  • Informed consent procedures

6.2 Plagiarism and Originality

All submissions are screened for plagiarism. Manuscripts containing plagiarism, including self-plagiarism, will be rejected.

  1. Conflict of Interest

Authors must disclose any financial or non-financial conflicts of interest that could influence the research. If no conflicts exist, authors should state:
“The authors declare no conflict of interest.”

  1. Funding Statement

Authors should clearly identify all sources of financial support, including grant numbers where applicable. If the research received no external funding, this should be explicitly stated.

  1. Data Availability Statement

Authors are encouraged to make research data openly available where possible. The data availability statement should indicate:

  • Where the data can be accessed, or
  • The reasons why the data are not publicly available

  1. Peer Review Process

JISAS operates a double-blind peer review process:

  • Each manuscript is reviewed by at least two independent reviewers.
  • Editorial decisions are based on technical quality, originality, relevance, and clarity.
  • The Editor-in-Chief makes the final decision on acceptance.

  1. Open Access Policy

All articles published in JISAS are open access, meaning they are freely available to readers without subscription or access fees.

  1. Copyright and Licensing

Authors retain copyright of their work and grant JISAS the right to publish the article. Published articles are distributed under a Creative Commons license, as specified by the journal.

  1. Submission Process

Manuscripts must be submitted online via the journal’s submission system. Authors should ensure that:

  • The manuscript complies with these guidelines
  • All required statements are included
  • The submission is complete and accurate
